Story 1

Mesa is a Spanish word that refers to the flat-topped rocky mountains found in the southwestern United States.

The Mesa has taken on its current shape through erosion by wind and rain. In the 1600s, the Spanish who came north from Mexico to this region called this uniquely shaped rock mountain "Mesa," meaning "table," and since then it has been called "Mesa" in English as well.

The vast area where the mesas lie is still inhabited by Native Americans (the people who originally inhabited the Americas), with over 300 tribes (ethnic groups) in North America alone.

Each tribe has its own language, way of life, culture, beliefs, and creation myths. Tribes living in the American Southwest include the Navajo, Hopi, Pueblo, Zuni, Havasupai, and many other Native American tribes that have migrated to the region.

Story 2

The turquoise that Mesa Collection focuses on importing has long been mined in this region. Turquoise has been treasured as a talisman and used in jewelry by the people who have lived in the Americas for over 10,000 years.

It is also known as "Sky Stone" because the sky that watches over people transformed into stone underground.

The Sky Stone is a talisman for travelers and a good luck charm for good health. It is also said to have been worn as a substitute stone.

The pen name of the CEO of NUKUMI Co., Ltd. is Nukumi Chiho, and she has written, co-authored, or translated over 15 books, including children's books. In addition to books, she has worked in magazines, television, and radio. She first set foot in the American Southwest as a university student, and since she began writing, it has become her main location for research.

Story3

I have had deep interactions with jewelry makers and Native Americans who preserve traditional ways of life since my days as a student majoring in cultural anthropology, and this continues to this day.

Inspired by a Native American friend's request to sell their jewelry and art in Tokyo, I started a private business in 2005 importing, wholesaling, and selling accessories, gemstones, and art.

When we incorporated and established NUKUMI Co., Ltd. in August 2016, we also launched Mesa Collection, a brand that imports and sells not only turquoise, but also natural stones, jewelry, and art that have been cherished by peoples around the world.

Story 4

The brand name incorporates the image of a large, reddish-brown table called "Mesa" that lies leisurely in the American Southwest, where everyone gathers to think about and discuss jewelry designs, as well as a table called "Mesa" where customers can leisurely look at and select pieces.

NUKUMI Co., Ltd. is a company that introduces the handicrafts, art works, folk crafts, culture and people of those who preserve traditions that should be preserved for the future of the Earth.

From the American Southwest, where we have made steady progress until our founding, we are now setting out to the world.

We would like to join hands, expand our circle, and walk together with you, introducing the cultures of ethnic groups that are not yet well known in Japan.

We look forward to your continued patronage.
